About Sam’s Honey Bees
A Journey Born from Curiosity
Sam’s fascination with beekeeping started years before he ever owned his first hive. With a young family and tight finances, the dream was put on hold. But as fate would have it, a job next door to a family friend, Kev, rekindled that interest. Kev, a seasoned beekeeper, had several hives in his field, and after a friendly conversation, Sam was invited to take a peek inside one of the hives. That day, Sam suited up, and from the moment he experienced the magic of bees, he never looked back.
Learning from the Bees
What began as curiosity quickly turned into a passion. Sam spent months learning everything he could from Kev, immersing himself in the art of beekeeping. Then, a life-changing offer came. Kev was moving house at the time and couldn’t take all his hives with him. He offered Sam one of his thriving colonies. After careful thought, Sam decided to take the leap, bringing the hive to its new home in early spring – and thus, Sam’s beekeeping journey truly began.
A Commitment to Natural Beekeeping
Sam’s Honey Bees is built on a foundation of natural, sustainable beekeeping. We believe in letting nature do what it does best. Our honey is untreated and harvested directly from the hive, ensuring that every jar captures the essence of Somerset’s countryside. We take great care to ensure the health of our bees, from regular inspections to managing pests like the varroa mite, all while maintaining a clean and natural environment for them to thrive.
Why Support Local Beekeepers?
Supporting local beekeepers is essential for the environment and our food systems. Bees are responsible for pollinating one-third of the food we eat, and without them, crops would fail. At Sam’s Honey Bees, we’re not just about delicious honey – we’re about helping to protect these vital pollinators. When you buy local honey, you’re supporting sustainable agriculture, the health of your local environment, and helping to preserve a way of life that benefits us all.
